Hi Everyone!
I posted the last week's lesson plan a little early.  We have a lot of fun activities planned for your last week of second grade.  I hope you enjoy them!  There are many to choose from each day.  You do not need to complete all of them.  Pick and choose what is interesting to you.  Also, you don't need to submit these activities.  Finally, please remember to pick up your materials and report card at school on Monday between 12 - 2 p.m.  I will be there handing them out.  I can't wait to see you:)

Good Afternoon,
I just want to thank everyone for all of their hard work and flexibility over the past month as we have experienced this journey of remote learning.  I know we are all at different places.  Some are still struggling to get into a routine and complete the lessons while others feel like we have just settled in and now April vacation is upon us.   Wherever you are at, I hope the break is an opportunity for you to relax and refocus. For those of you that feel like you just settled into a routine and are looking for activities to do during the break I have included 2 optional files.  One is the second grade choice board and the other is a choice board from Mrs. Bradford which contains activities related to the school-wide read aloud. (She asked us to stress that she would love pics!)

Also, I want to thank all of you that took the time to complete the quick survey.  I will analyze the results over the break and make any necessary adjustments when we return.  I will try to post lesson plans for the week following break on Sunday evening, April 26th.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe, and healthy break.

Take care and be safe!

Dear Families,
Congratulations, we have completed another week of remote learning! I was very impressed with the number of students working in Google Classroom and completing their assignments. Also, many of you are working hard to complete your Lexia and Symphony Math goals. 

Thank you for your patience as we are figuring out remote learning together. Teachers have received further guidance from the state and our district. Students are expected to be working 15 hours a week / 3 hours a day. We understand that we are all trying to work, parent, and learn so we are trying to make it as streamlined as possible! For this reason, I will be emailing out work for the week so that you have access to it. That being said, please feel free to be flexible within the recommended plan to accommodate your schedule and needs. Please watch for the first weekly plan. I will try to send it out Sunday evening so you have it to begin the school week on Monday.

Thank you again for all of your support!
Christine

Dear Families,
With the extension of remote learning we are being urged to get on board with Google Classroom.  With that being said our number one task to start this week is to log on to Google Classroom.

First type: www.google.com in the address bar.

Then click sign in. You will need your child’s logon information.

Your child’s email is:

Your child’s password is:
Leo#####    (The # represent your child’s lunch pin.  He / she should know this number.)

Once logged in your child should have an email from me to join the class.

Let’s see if we can get everyone logged on by the end of the day Monday.

In addition children should be working in their ebags (hopefully ebag 2 by now), Lexia, and Symphony.   I do have some enrichment activities planned for this week, but I am hoping to load them on Google Classroom once we get everyone setup.

Please let me know if you are having difficulty logging in to Google Classroom.  As always, thank you so much for your support.

Dear Families,
With the extension of remote learning, the district has made available new ebags.

The first ebag went home in the red folders with students on March 13 and was also made available on the district website.  If students have been working on this daily, they should be just about finished with it.

The second ebag is now available on the district website.  I also shared the files with you so you should be able to access them.  Finally, I know a paper copy may be easier for the children to complete so paper copies are available at Fall Brook, Johnny Appleseed and Frances Drake from 7am - 10am Monday through Friday.  I urge you to get a copy and have your child work through the packets a little each day.  There is a math and reading component.  I will also continue to provide additional enrichment.  I don't want anyone to feel overwhelmed so I would prioritize the ebags, Lexia & Symphony goals - then any additional enrichment activities.

Also, it may be helpful to develop and post a routine.  This is just a suggested outline, everyone's routine and times will vary. Find what works for your family.

7:30 - 8:00 breakfast
8:00 - 8:30 - shower
8:30 - 9:15 - math
9:15 - 9:30 stretch break, snack, mini gym
9:30 - 10:15 reading and responding
10:15 - 11:00 stretch break, snack, mini gym
11 - 11:30 writing
11:30 - 12:15 - technology (Lexia & Symphony)
12:15 - 1:00 - lunch
1:00 - 3:00 outdoor activity / creative time / play a game
3:00 - read a book together.

I hope this information is helpful, as always please feel free to reach out to me.

Happy Monday of week 2!

I hope you are all doing well, keeping busy, and staying safe.  I miss seeing you all at school, and I can't wait to be with you again.  I have been checking Lexia and Symphony Math, and I am so happy to see that many of you are completing your online work.  I also received some pictures and questions.  I love to see what you are working on, and I am here to answer any questions you may have.  I'm guessing by now many of you have completed or almost completed the work in your red folder.  Using the link below I have attached some reading and math activities as well as some writing prompts.  These are enrichment activities and are by no means required.  Feel free to explore them and do some that interest you.  I do strongly encourage students to be doing some reading, math, and writing each day while we are apart.  Please feel free to email me with questions or to show me what you have been working on!

Dear Families,

Please watch the blog.  I will be posting updates here as I receive them.  A few pieces of information regarding the educational folders that were sent home with children Friday.

1. I encourage children to work through the folder a little each day.  Please do not have your child complete the whole folder over the span of one or two days.

2. The blog has all the links children can use to access online learning.  Children are very familiar with Symphony Math and Lexia, we use them daily in the classroom.

Symphony Math - Your child should complete 45 minutes each week.  The program will show students their progress towards this goal when they log in.  Please do not help your child with this program unless he/she becomes completely frustrated.  It has built in levels of help and notifies me when your child is struggling and needs extra support.

Lexia - Each child's weekly goal is different.  Children can see their goal and progress towards their goal when they log in.  Children should be sure to complete their weekly goal.  Also, please do not help you child with this program unless he/she becomes completely frustrated.  It also has build in levels of help and notifies me when your child needs extra support.

Children have access to our reading and math curriculum as well.

EnVisions 2.0 is our math curriculum. If you are looking for more practice for your child, he/she may log on to this program.  We have not used this much in the classroom so you would need to explore it with your child.  There are some math games as well as you have access to the math book and extra practice.  At this time I ask that you only allow your child to practice review materials.  Anything from topics 1 - 9.  We are currently working on topic 10.

Wonders is our reading curriculum.  Children should read daily.  If you need reading materials children may log onto to this program to access our reading texts.  We are currently in Unit 5 so I ask that children only read texts from unit 1- 4 so they do not get ahead of our current learning.  In addition this program has many learning games and activities related to comprehension, decoding, spelling, and grammar.

XtraMath can be used to practice basic fact fluency.  We used this some at the beginning of the year, but children may need your support logging into this program.

Finally, use everyday situations to create fun learning opportunities.  For example, if you bake with your child have him / her read you the recipe and talk with your child about the measurements.  If you play in the yard try to use sensory words or come up with similes to describe nature.  This would build on a recent topic we just completed, increase vocabulary, and strengthen children's writing.  Play a board game or make a puzzle:)

I will be checking email so if you have any questions please feel free to email me at:
christine.gauvin@leominsterschools.org  and stay safe!
